Terralta Añejo Tequila is a distinguished, additive-free tequila produced by Felipe Camarena at the El Pandillo Distillery (NOM 1579) in the highlands of Jalisco. A key characteristic of Terralta is the exclusive use of deep well water sourced 150 meters beneath the distillery, which imparts a unique earthy and mineral profile to the tequila. The agave used is 100% Blue Weber from the highlands and it's aged for 12-18 months in ex-bourbon American white oak barrels.

Tasting Notes:

  • Aroma: Expect inviting aromas of cooked agave, often accompanied by stone fruit, peppery oak, and a hint of light caramel. Some also detect notes of maple, leather, mild smoke, fruit, and a subtle touch of vanilla and spice.
  • Palate: The palate is marked by a full-flavored cooked agave presence, complemented by the barrel aging which introduces toasty and spicy notes that remain light and well-rounded. You might also find flavors of vanilla, cinnamon, and roasted spices, with some describing a balance of caramel, oak, light chocolate, and a smooth, buttery texture.
  • Finish: The finish is generally lasting and pleasantly oily, often with a slight funk and a hint of fermented sweetness. Some describe a clean finish with lingering notes of vanilla and chocolate.

Overall Impression: Terralta Añejo is appreciated for being an aged tequila that maintains a significant agave presence, unlike some Anejos where oak dominates. The unique deep well water contributes a distinct earthy and mineral character. It's often recommended for those who enjoy blanco tequila and want a gently aged expression that retains agave notes alongside the complexities of oak. Many reviewers consider it an excellent value for its quality.
