Roe & Co Blended Irish Whiskey is a contemporary premium blended Irish whiskey, named in honour of George Roe, a significant figure in 19th-century Irish whiskey history whose distillery was once the largest in Ireland. It was relaunched by Diageo in 2017, marking their return to the Irish whiskey category.

Key Features:

  • Irish Origin: Produced in Ireland.
  • Blend of Malt and Grain: A masterful blend of rich malt whiskey and smooth grain whiskey. The malt component is known to come from Bushmills distillery.
  • Bourbon Cask Maturation: Aged exclusively in mostly first-fill ex-bourbon casks.
  • Non-Chill Filtered: Bottled without chill filtration to retain more of its natural character.
  • Higher ABV: Bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof), which is slightly higher than the standard 40%.

Tasting Notes (based on various sources):

  • Nose: Creamy and delightfully fragrant, with remarkably rounded notes of soft spice, mellow spun sugar, and warm hints of woody vanilla. Some detect honey, melon, and caramel, with a bourbon-like aroma.
  • Palate: The quality and perfect balance of the blend are immediately apparent through its velvety texture and sweet flavors, including spiced pears and vanilla. Some note creamy vanilla, pear, apple, sour lemon, unripe mangoes, and a building spice with biscuity notes.
  • Finish: Lingering and gentle, ending with a light creaminess and spicy notes of pepper and oak.

Overall Impression:

Roe & Co Blended Irish Whiskey is presented as a refined, elegant, and versatile spirit with remarkable depth. The bourbon cask maturation imparts sweet and vanilla notes, while the blend of malt and grain offers a balanced profile with a pleasant texture. It's considered a smooth and easy-drinking whiskey that can be enjoyed neat or in a variety of cocktails.
