Lagavulin 12 Year Old Natural Cask Strength 2024

Part of Diageo’s 2024 Special Releases collection, themed “Spirited Xchange,” this Lagavulin 12 Year Old expression, titled Fireside Tales, showcases the distillery's signature Islay character with a refined twist. Matured in a combination of first-fill ex-bourbon barrels, refill American oak hogsheads, and refill European oak butts, it is bottled at a natural cask strength of 57.4% ABV. The result is a complex whisky where bold peat smoke is tempered by inviting sweetness, offering a nuanced and memorable tasting experience.

Tasting Notes

• Nose: Aromas of a smouldering bonfire on a distant beach and wood ash, backed by subtle fruity notes suggesting rowan jelly and hints of unripe redcurrants. 

• Palate: Smoothly creamy and mouth-filling texture, very sweet to taste at first then quickly drying, with a sprinkling of salt and controlled smokiness. A drop of water brings out more sweetness without significantly altering the profile. 

• Finish: Long and powerfully smoky, drying with a twist of warming spice that lingers in the aftertaste—a classic Lagavulin. 

This limited-edition release is a testament to Lagavulin's mastery in balancing robust peat smoke with nuanced sweetness, making it a compelling choice for both seasoned aficionados and those new to Islay malts.
