Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey – famously known as Old No. 7 – is a classic American whiskey made in Lynchburg, Tennessee. It's crafted from a mash bill of 80% corn, 12% barley, and 8% rye, and mellowed drop by drop through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal before aging in new charred oak barrels. This charcoal mellowing process, known as the Lincoln County Process, gives it its signature smoothness and qualifies it as a Tennessee whiskey rather than a traditional bourbon.
Tasting Notes:
-
Aroma: Sweet vanilla, toasted oak, light caramel, and banana bread.
-
Palate: Smooth and approachable with notes of warm vanilla, brown sugar, a touch of spice, and soft oak.
-
Finish: Gentle and mellow with lingering hints of toasted nuts and sweet grain.
This iconic whiskey is versatile – great for sipping neat, on the rocks, or as the foundation for countless classic cocktails like the Old Fashioned or Whiskey Sour.
