Product Description:
Named after the peat-laden loch that provides Ardbeg distillery's water source, Uigeadail (pronounced 'Oog-uh-dal') is a highly acclaimed expression within Ardbeg's core range. This non-age-stated single malt uniquely marries the traditional deep, smoky Ardbeg character derived from maturation in ex-bourbon casks with the rich, sweet, and fruity notes imparted by maturation in ex-Oloroso sherry casks. Bottled at a high strength of 54.2% ABV and non-chill filtered, Ardbeg Uigeadail offers a profound depth and powerful integration of peat smoke and luscious sherry cask influence.
Tasting Notes:
-
Nose: Rich and complex aromas immediately present a captivating blend of deep peat smoke, warm Christmas cake, dark chocolate, walnuts, raisins, and hints of leather. Underlying notes of espresso, molasses, and a touch of smoked bacon or cured meat add further depth.
-
Palate: Full-bodied, powerful, and intriguingly chewy. Intense peat smoke, tar, and bonfire ash flavours are met head-on by luscious sweetness from the sherry casks – think treacle toffee, honey-glazed ham, dark fruits (currants, dates), and rich malt loaf. Warming spices like cinnamon and black pepper provide balance alongside a dark chocolate bitterness.
-
Finish: Exceptionally long, warming, and complex. Lingering waves of peat smoke, raisin sweetness, espresso, dark chocolate, and subtle oak spice persist beautifully, leaving a satisfying smoky and sweet aftertaste.
