Product Description:
This specific Lagavulin Distillers Edition (batch lgv 4/509) was distilled in 2005 and bottled in 2020. Like all Distillers Editions from Lagavulin, it undergoes a double maturation process. After initial aging (similar to the classic Lagavulin profile), it's finished in casks previously holding sweet Pedro Ximénez (PX) sherry. This PX finish imparts intense, raisiny sweetness and dried fruit complexity, adding luscious layers that complement Lagavulin's signature deep peat smoke and maritime character.
Tasting Notes (for batch lgv 4/509 / 2020 release):
-
Nose: Enticing peat smoke mingling with pronounced sweetness (raisins, grapes, dried fruit), vanilla, roasted malt, and perhaps coffee notes, underpinned by a salty tang.
-
Palate: Sweet, luscious, and often oily. Robust peat smoke balanced with intense PX sherry sweetness (raisins, plums, dates), coffee, vanilla, dark chocolate, and a distinct salty/maritime element.
-
Finish: Incredibly long and engaging, with a warming interplay of peat smoke, rich fruit sweetness from the PX cask, oak, and lingering spice.
